A TALSARN man will be taking part in a 10k run this weekend to thank the chemotherapy unit at Ysbyty Bronglais following his treatment.

Arwyn Davies, 51, who is a Corporate Manager for Ceredigion County Council, said he wanted to raise money for the Chemotherapy Day Unit after receiving excellent treatment there following surgery for bowel cancer.

Arwyn has been running between 20 and 30 miles a week to prepare himself for the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run, which takes place on Sunday, 26 September.

He said: “Three years after starting my chemotherapy treatment in Bronglais Hospital following surgery for bowel cancer, I’m taking part in my first 10k run to raise money for the efforts to upgrade the Chemotherapy Unit.

“The treatment I received there then, and hundreds of others continue to receive there, was and is excellent, and I want to help ensure that the best possible resources are available to patients in Ceredigion and mid Wales.

Arwyn has already helped raise £10,000 towards Bronglais Hospital’s Chemotherapy Day Unit.

“The Bois y Gilfach choir, of which I’m a member, raised £10,000 towards the unit in 2019,” he added. “I organised a concert in Lampeter, which raised the bulk of that money.”

Set in the heart of Cardiff’s historic Bay, the Brecon Carreg Cardiff Bay Run is a flat, fast and friendly event for all ages and abilities.

Arwyn said: “Training has been going well. I took up running in March and have done a number of 10k runs in training. I do the Llanerchaeron Parkrun every week too - since they restarted in August.”

Nicola Llewelyn, Head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, the official charity of Hywel Dda University Health Board, said they wanted to thank Arwyn for his fundraising.
