Madam,
I see Powys County Council is congratulating residents on recycling a record amount of waste. Yet Powys County Council do this while slashing recycling and waste collection services.
They congratulate us on recycling so much, yet it could be more. I’m no eco-warrior, but if the council is going to be green, then don’t be half-hearted and do the job properly. Families of any size are forced to wait three weeks for their general waste to be collected. I don’t believe Powys residents will put up with rotting food posing a health hazard for long. This punishes the poorest who don’t have a large space to put their bins.
The contempt that the Independents who run the council have shown the voters knows no bounds. The most glaring example is the closing of Machynlleth’s recycling facilities in the town’s car park. The council suggesting the residents of Machynlleth and its surrounding areas go to recycle their waste in Newtown. What about those who don’t have the time or the means to do so, or the elderly or disabled? This will only encourage fly-tipping and is a great affront to the people in and near Machynlleth.
Yours etc
Calum Davies
Welsh Conservative Powys County Council Candidate for Glantwymyn
