Kerbside collection of glass waste is likely to start in Ceredigion in the spring of 2019, it has been revealed.
Ceredigion County Council will launch a kerbside glass collection service when the authority takes delivery of new refuse collection vehicles.
That could see the glass collections launched in some areas in the spring, with the hope that the service will be provided across the whole county by autumn next year.
Cllr Dafydd Edwards, the Cabinet member responsible for waste, said: “The hope is we’ll start in the spring when the new lorries arrive. I expect it will be the start of the autumn when all the new lorries are here.
“We’ll do some routes first, so we’ll be doing some areas first.”
Meanwhile, Cllr Edwards said the introduction of a new trial for waste in Aberystwyth, which will see residents in some areas given seagull-proof bags to protect black bin bags, shows that the authority is working on finding a solution for problems in the town.
The new trial comes after the introduction of a communal bins pilot which has helped reduce problems with black bin bags being torn apart by gulls.
Cllr Edwards said: “We are doing our best in Aberystwyth to find the solutions.
“It’s too early to say if it will work, but we are trying to find a way.”
