Madam,
I am attaching a photo of the damage to my car caused during a recent visit to Lampeter.
On my visit to Lampeter in September, I followed signs for town centre car parking only to be directed along a very narrow side-street (St Thomas Street). The combination of the tight corner with a large obstacle that had inexplicably been left on the street corner that day meant that it was impossible for me to successfully negotiate the corner, more so given that my view of pedestrians crossing the side-road was impaired by the tightness of the corner.
I have drawn the county council’s attention to the fact that traffic could easily enough be directed along Peterwell Terrace, a wider and better road. However, they have refused to take any responsibility for their own signage, choosing instead to insult my driving in their e-mails. I have been a motorist for 15 years with never a point on my licence or an insurance claim.
It seems to me that the council simply wishes to booby-trap visitors to the town. And given that it took until the start of November to even receive a meaningful response from the council over this issue, my whole experience of Lampeter has been a distressing one that has left me angry. A place to avoid in the future, I think.
Yours etc,
Matthew Eagles,
Tockington, Bristol.
