GWYNEDD Council staff have been accused of “shredding” litter while cutting grass along the Porthmadog bypass.

Peter Green was aghast to see the torn up litter in the grass verge along the busy road, branding it “disgusting” and blaming council staff for not properly cleaning the edge of the road before cutting the grass.

“I can’t believe the actions of Gwynedd Council and some of their workforce,” he said.

“[On Monday and Tuesday] they have been cutting the grass along the side of the Porthmadog bypass.

“However, before doing so they have not bothered to pick up the litter first and have just shredded it into many more pieces. It’s disgusting!”

Gwynedd Council has organised a clean-up operation to tidy up the verge of the road and thanked Mr Green for his observations.

A spokesperson said: “Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. A litter pick has been organised to clear away the rubbish.

"We would underline that littering and fly-tipping is an environmental crime and anyone found guilty of the offence could be subject to a fine.”
