COUNCIL staff have cycled over 40 miles to raise awareness of emotional support services available in the region.

Gwynedd Council’s ADTRAC staff have taken part in a sponsored bike journey from Caernarfon to Porthmadog and back in aid of Samaritans Cymru.

Sioned Wyn Evans, Bethan Eluned Jones and Amanda Jones took part in ‘On your Bike’ to raise awareness of the Samaritans and also to show how the council’s ADTRAC services can help young people to improve their wellbeing.

Bethan, who manages the ADTRAC project, said: “We are trying to encourage young people to improve their health and to improve the way they travel for life by using Public Health Wales’ 5 Ways to Wellbeing framework.

“The five aims are to take notice, to connect with other people, to be active, to give to other people and to keep learning. We encourage young people to do these five simple things every day.

“The three of us thought that a sponsored bike ride would be a perfect way of bringing these five things together. It was a very rewarding experience to take part in this journey and we are very pleased to have achieved what we did.”

Sioned said: “ADTRAC Gwynedd is a project which is partly funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government in order to inspire development amongst children between 16 and 24 years old who are out of work in north Wales.

“The aim of the project is to help young people back to work, education or training.

“We develop an appropriate programme that offers mental health and wellbeing support along with support to develop employability skills for young people.”
