The decision to give Gwynedd council staff an extra day’s holiday on St David’s Day stands, despite three councillors calling for a U-turn over costs.

Independent councillors Angela Russell and John Pughe Roberts, along with Labour’s Sion Jones, asked for the decision to be scrutinised.

They said £200,000 – the cost of the extra holiday - could be spent on other things, and the decision to spend so much on a holiday for so few was poor, particularly when household bills are on the rise.

They asked the scrutiny committee yesterday (Thursday) to send the matter back to cabinet. but the committee voted 5-4 against that, and the decision to award the holiday stands.
