Madam,

The campaign for cycle lanes into town resonates with Extinction Rebellion’s call over the last two weeks for action in response to the Climate Emergency.

Sadly the Westminster government as distinct from parliament has still not declared a Climate Emergency.

Governments are happy to make lots of noise about how good they are without taking any major action. Action which must include mitigation here in the UK and around the World to deal with the huge impacts coming over the next few decades.

Noise is also being made closer to home. Alun Williams of Ceredigion Council recognises a need for mitigation. Sadly Ceredigion Council is still allowing new build on areas liable to flooding when we need new infrastructure built for a changing world (i.e to withstand localised flooding risks and torrential downpours as well as heart waves, and rising sea levels).

This on top of a need to drastically cut our emissions and absorb CO2 as a part of a huge global effort to reduce our contribution to the Climate Emergency.

It’s information and news like this that we need from our public service broadcaster the BBC, hence the massive lobby and action which took place at Broadcasting House earlier this month.

Yours etc, Moth Foster, Rhydybont, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
