A Penparcau councillor has said a dream has become a reality following the restoration of the village's war memorial.

Cllr Carl Worrall says the idea to restore Penparcau's war memorial, situated in Southgate, began when he approached his friend, Steven Fenner, to discuss a project that had been on his mind for some time.

Cllr Worrall said: "The area around the Penparcau War Memorial had often been left with long grass and limited access around the memorial itself.

Together, we shared a vision of creating a more welcoming and respectful space for residents and visitors alike."

With Steven Fenner taking full control of the project and Cllr Carl Worrall working alongside him, that vision has now been brought to life.

A beautiful pathway has been installed around the memorial, making it easier for people to visit, reflect, and pay their respects.

Cllr Worrall said: "A special thank you must also go to Paul James Memorials for generously providing the plaque at the start of the pathway.

"This wonderful addition creates a fitting entrance to the War Memorial and will serve as a lasting reminder of the community effort that has gone into transforming this important site.

"A very special thank you also goes to Travis Perkins for supplying the materials needed to make this project happen. Their generosity and support played a vital role in helping us turn an idea into a reality.

"This project would not have been possible without the support, hard work, and generosity of many individuals and organisations.

"A very special thank you goes to Steven Fenner for his dedication and leadership throughout the project.

"We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to: Cllr Raymond Evans, Cllr Shelley Childs, Jamie Macken for his valuable help, Michael Pugh, without whom the project would still be ongoing, Charlie Taylor for his contribution and support, Rhodri, Marc and Frances Lewis for their assistance on digging out the path and clearing up at the end.

"George and Kelvin from the Penparcau Community Hub for helping to provide the bench and for the many other ways they have supported the project, Warwick Neville for the gardening, Pamela Worrall, David Blair and Cliff Bates.

"Every person involved has played an important part in transforming this area and creating something the community can be proud of.

"We are hoping to arrange an official opening in the near future, where we will not only celebrate the completion of the project but also share some of the fascinating history of the Southgate area and the significance of the War Memorial to our community.

"Thank you to everyone who has helped make this project possible. Together, we've created something special for Penparcau, both now and for future generations."

A Remembrance Sunday service will be held at the war memorial on Sunday, 8 November, with the event beginning at Neuadd Goffa from 3pm with free food and drink being offered and everyone is welcome to attend.
