A NEW service for Penrhyndeudraeth and the surrounding area made possible thanks to an £83,000 investment by Gwynedd Council has been welcomed.
Penrhyndeudraeth councillor, Gareth Thomas, said he is delighted that the investment has been confirmed for the council building at Parc Busnes Eryri in Penrhyndeudraeth.
They will be able to receive key face-to-face contact about council services within the building.
The investment will also provide a space that can be used by staff in the council’s adult, health and wellbeing department, and also their coworkers from the health services, who expressed their wishes to have an office location for staff to use within a reasonable distance to Ysbyty Alltwen, Tremadog.
“It’s particularly good news for the people of this area,” said Cllr Thomas, “and I’m pleased that Plaid Cymru’s cabinet has authorised the work to go ahead.
“Ensuring that local people have access to services close to their locality is important.
“Currently we only have a Galw Gwynedd call centre on site without a front of house contact point for the public.
“From discussions locally, I am aware that some people are far more confident receiving guidance and support in person, rather than over the telephone.”
Cllr Nia Jeffreys, who is responsible for Gwynedd Council’s corporate support services said: “A face-to-face service is key for local people, especially for those who may be vulnerable and need more guidance and support.
“This investment will also ensure space for the council’s adults, health and wellbeing staff members and their colleagues from the health service.
“There is a close working relationship with the health service and having an office space for staff to use which is close to Ysbyty Alltwen is a positive step.”
