COUNTY councils in Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire will join forces to look into how waste collection services could be revamped.
The two councils have been awarded grant funding from the Welsh Government for a detailed review into waste collection services.
And they will also work together on a Ceredigion pilot scheme into glass recycling collections which will be held in the Cardigan and Penparc area before a decision on whether to expand it to the whole of Ceredigion.
The Welsh Government funding will allow a review of waste collection services in Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire with the councils looking at ways services could be rearranged to allow closer joint working.
Meanwhile, Pembrokeshire Council will support the glass collection trial scheme by providing a collection vehicle, a driver and containers for the glass at low cost, while other staff will be provided by Ceredigion Council. The pilot scheme will start on 9 September and is scheduled to run for around nine months.
A report for Ceredigion Council’s Cabinet said: “Building on our partnership success, an opportunity is emerging where we can potentially further our joint working arrangements with Pembrokeshire Council through working more closely on our waste collection services."
