Editor,

It is excellent to read that Ceredigion Council has committed to achieving net zero carbon by 2030.That is eight years away.

I wonder if they have plans in place to achieve this? I am surprised that ’redeveloping’ Aberystwyth and Aberaeron Harbours is even considered, when one thinks of the carbon footprint of all the building work that would be entailed. More shops where there will be floods? Really?

I would have thought that if there are millions of pounds available it should be spent on flood prevention and grants for the insulation of existing properties.

The empty commercial properties and abandoned council buildings like Bodlondeb and the Old Library could be converted into attractive and snug homes – better than plonking new buildings on green fields, which are absorbing CO2 and emitting oxygen.

We need millions more native trees. I know of Lockdown Woods planted by local communities. The Woodland Trust provides free trees and advice. Some of this is in the hands local initiatives, with planning consent.

But dear Councillors and Planners, please get informed advice and make the right green decisions, instead of being the passive recipients of commercial developers out to make money by sticking mean, unsightly and polluting buildings in every tiny space in this beautiful county.
