CEREDIGION has continued its record of being one of the best counties in Wales for recycling after the county revealed that it had recycled 68 per cent of the county’s waste, the best in Wales.

The figures for 2015/16 showed that Ceredigion’s recycling rate of 68 per cent smashed the Welsh Government target of recycling 58 per cent of waste, with the Wales-wide figure of 60 per cent, almost reaching the target set for 2025 of recycling 70 per cent of waste.

Huw Morgan, the council’s strategic director of sustainable communities, said the high rate of recycling in Ceredigion would not be possible without the support of residents taking part in recycling schemes.

He said: “The service we offer is easy to use and is popular with residents. Our data suggests that 98 per cent of households in Ceredigion take part in the recycling collection service at least some of the time, which is a fantastic achievement.”

As well as residents being prepared to recycle waste, Mr Morgan said the council was also using innovative ways to dispose of waste with black bag waste being sent to a power plant in Sweden to be burnt to produce heat and electricity, instead of being sent to landfill.
