A COUPLE who recently moved to Aberystwyth are doing a daily litter-pick throughout December for advent.

Helena Garland moved to the town in September due to her husband Ed starting a Masters degree in creative writing at Aberystwyth University.

And Mrs Garland, who was brought up in Hereford but has moved to Aberystwyth from Bristol, said they had “fallen in love” with the town, and have decided to mark advent with a daily clean of Aberystwyth’s beaches and footpaths.

“We moved to Aberystwyth at the end of September and we have fallen in love,” she told the Cambrian News.

“The stunning land and seascapes enrich me daily and the friendly, hearty town has been such a warm welcome.

“As a thank you for all that the nature here gives me, two months ago I started filling a bag of rubbish every time I went out running in the hills, which is about three to four times a week.

“I also joined the Aberystwyth Beach Buddies, who are great.

“For advent, Ed and I are doing a daily beach or hill clean — it is just so precious here, it deserves such respect and protection.”
