A couple who married in Llanbadarn Fawr in 1959 have travelled back to the village to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
George and Gladys Moody, along with friends and family, marked the milestone with a celebratory lunch and get together.
The couple met when George was stationed outside Aberystwyth for his national service in the mid 1950s.
One weekend, they were taken to the town for an evening off.
George and his friend went to the King’s Hall for a dance, and sat down next to Gladys Hughes and her friends.
After several other dances, the rest – as they say – is history.
George became a regular visitor on his days off to 13 Brynrheidol Estate, Llanbadarn Fawr while he was on his national service.
And after a short time, George asked Reginald Hughes, Gladys’ father, for her hand in marriage.
On 5 September 1959, they married in the village church, with Gladys’ brother David Hughes best man and her youngest sister Roma Hughes one of the bridesmaids.
George’s mother and youngest sister were the only family who could make the journey to Llanbadarn, as his father, brothers and sister either had to work or had young families.
The couple then moved back to George’s home in Penge, south east London, where they have spent all their married life.
