A CHWILOG couple are supporting a petition calling for a ban on the sale of fireworks in the UK after their puppy ran away at the sound of a firework.

One-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Max went missing at 7pm on Saturday, 5 November, after he bolted from the garden after he was spooked by a loud bang.

Max was found three days later on a nearby beach and was reunited with his owners, Katie Saunders and Phil Hughes, who had been frantically searching for him since he went missing.

Katie said: “My partner basically took him to the garden for a wee when it was quiet, and the fireworks had not started.

“All of a sudden, massive bangs started, so out of fear he jumped over the back wall into a small farm then ran into the main road heading out of Chwilog towards the direction of Y Ffôr.

“I was devastated, he’s my baby, my partner and I missed him so much, we were worried and spent all night and everyday trying to find him.

“We were so happy when he was found on the beach, we are so grateful to everyone who has helped us try and find him, Max is one very lucky young boy and he is certainly very well known round here now!”

Katie has now said she would support and sign the online petition, submitted to the Government petitions website, asking for Parliament to ‘ban the sale of fireworks to the public and only approve organised displays’, which has so far attracted more than 126,000 signatures.
