A vigilant neighbour saved a couple from an early-hours house fire in Nefyn on Saturday.

A man and a woman were “lucky” to be rescued from the blaze, at around 2am on Saturday, 15 February, after a neighbour heard the smoke alarm, saw smoke, and called 999.

The cause of the fire was cooking left unattended, the fire service said.

The occupants had not heard the alarm, and a fire officer said this “could have been a very different incident” if the neighbour had not raised the alarm.

Firefighters from Pwllheli and Nefyn were called out to the property in Pentreuchaf at 1.51am.

The pair were both treated at the scene by ambulance staff.

Fire crews brought the man and woman out of the property.

Elian Roberts, from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “This couple was very lucky. The smoke alarms operated in the property but they didn’t hear them.

“Luckily, the neighbour heard the alarm and went to check on the property, saw the smoke, and called the fire and rescue service. This could have been a very different incident had she not have heard the alarm going off.”
