A man, who a court heard travelled “quickly and erratically” at 90mph through Bow Street, will be sentenced in crown court after admitting dangerous driving.
Joseph Lawrence Stratton, of 1 Whinberry Drive, Shrewsbury, was driving a Honda Civic with a “deliberate disregard for the safety of others in a built-up area” when he was trailed by police on 8 October last year, Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday.
Stratton, 29, admitted driving dangerously on the A487 Penglais Hill road to A458 Foel, as well as separate offences of driving without a licence, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis.
The court heard that despite a crash on the A485 at Foel which damaged the car’s wheels, Stratton continued to drive quickly despite the “deteriorating weather conditions” on the night.
Stratton travelled at 90mph, passing cars and veering over the central markings as he passed through Talybont and Bow Street, the court was told.
After being signalled to stop by police and pulling over, Stratton attempted a U-turn to evade officers, scraping a police car. But he was stopped in the process.
No mitigation was offered at the hearing and Aberystwyth magistrates sent the case to Swansea Crown Court for sentence.
Stratton, who was placed on an interim driving disqualification, will be sentenced in Swansea on 31 January.
He was remanded on unconditional bail until that date.
