A FORMER teacher at Machynlleth Primary School was due to appear in court today to face more than 60 charges of historical sex abuse against girls dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.

Gordon Fleming, 66, is charged with 61 offences of indecent assault on girls under the age of 14.

The charges involve a total of 24 girls.

Fleming, of 1 The Mews, Burma Road, Park Hall in Shropshire was due to appear before Aberystwyth magistrates at the town’s Justice Centre today.

As well as being a teacher at Machynlleth Primary School, Fleming was also chairman of the Machynlleth Carnival Committee while he lived in the town.
