A farmer who used his tractor to lift and move a neighbouring farmer’s pickup truck, causing irreparable damage, has been fined and given a restraining order in court.
Ceredin Jones, 53, of Llanarth in Ceredigion, was sentenced at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on 10 September 2026 following a trial.
Jones had pleaded not guilty to criminal damage to property with a value over £5,000.
On 9 August last year, Jones drove his Massey Ferguson tractor into Anwen Hughes’ Fiat Fullback pickup truck, hoisted it with the front loader bucket, and moved it approximately 20 yards through a country lane.
The pickup truck was later written off due to an estimated £5,000 worth of damage.
Magistrates imposed a restraining order which now prevents Jones from attempting to enter Anwen Hughes's farm, as well as accessing the lane where the incident took place.
The lane is owned by Anwen Hughes, however Jones has a right of way to access his own farmland.
Speaking after the sentencing to the Cambrian News, Anwen Hughes said: “The pickup was essential to our daily farm operations and, at the time, also crucial for managing our eldest son's farm business while he was away caring for our severely ill grandchild.
“We relied on the vehicle to support my mother, who was recovering from a stroke, and it was our only form of transport after our car had recently came to its end of life
“The damage had a significant impact on our ability to work, care for our family, and manage our responsibilities.
“This was compounded by the stress‑related depression I was experiencing as a result of the ongoing intimidation.”
In addition to the restraining order, Jones must pay costs of £650 and a surcharge of £150.
