A WAUNFAWR man tried to “break everything in the house” when he attacked his wife and smashed a number of items, she told police.
Alex Roby, of 90 Rhoshendre, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mini Roby on 8 November and of criminal damage of Mrs Roby’s necklace after he broke the necklace by yanking it during the attack.
Prosecutor Ellie Morgan said Roby and his wife had been arguing on the day before Roby, 51, grabbed the phone out of his wife’s hand while she was speaking to a family member, and pulled the wire from the wall.
He then went upstairs and started smashing items, including a computer, before returning downstairs and pushing his wife into a wall and punching her to the shoulder, neck and ribcage.
Mrs Roby said her husband then tried to “break everything in the house” smashing a display cabinet and pulling a picture from the wall.
Roby grabbed his wife’s necklace and pulled it, snapping the clasp.
She fell to the floor and he then grabbed her and pulled her across the floor before throwing her onto the sofa and starting to punch her again.
Ms Morgan said Mrs Roby then bit her husband to stop him before running outside and calling the police.
She sought the help of a neighbour who said Mrs Roby appeared scared while Roby himself seemed quite calm.
In her statement Mrs Roby said she had been terrified by the incident, but Ms Morgan said she had given a withdrawal statement saying she was supporting her husband and wanted him to be able to return home.
Defence solicitor Janem Jones said Roby had pleaded guilty at the first occasion and he had said that if the incident had happened in the couple’s home country of India, police would have helped the couple whilst making it clear that his behaviour was unacceptable.
Magistrates said they wanted a pre-sentence report before deciding how to sentence Roby and adjourned sentencing until a hearing on 4 January.
Roby was released on conditional bail.
