A MAN who attacked another reveller in an Aberystwyth pub on ‘Mad Friday’ before Christmas has been fined and ordered to pay compensation.
Dominic Hamer, of 75 Maesheli in Penparcau, admitted punching Dean Davies in the Scholars pub on 18 December.
Mr Davies claimed it was following a dispute over money he was owed, Aberystwyth magistrates were told.
Prosecutor Kevin Challinor said police were called to the pub at around 6.40pm on 18 December and spoke to Mr Davies. He said there had been an argument between him and Hamer, 24, over money.
Mr Davies was later stood at the bar when Hamer returned and punched Mr Davies three times to the head. A member of staff who witnessed the assault said the punches appeared to be “full force”.
In a police interview Hamer said he had been drunk at the time and couldn’t remember the incident, but that he had been told by a friend that he had assaulted Mr Davies.
Hamer, who represented himself, said he accepted the prosecution evidence as he could not remember what had happened and said he wanted to apologise for the offence.
He said: “It shouldn’t have happened. I’ve got no excuse and I hold my hands up and say sorry.”
Hamer was fined £250 and will pay compensation of £100 to Mr Davies, as well as costs totalling £105.
