A Barmouth man who urinated in the doorway of an Aberystwyth bank with staff and customers inside had breached a police order just days after it was imposed.
Peter Martin Collins, 50, admitted outraging public decency, breaching a community protection notice, two charges of theft and a charge of attempted theft.
Prosecutor Ceri Ellis-Jones said Collins had stolen or attempted to steal alcohol from Aberystwyth’s Tesco Express store on three occasions, on 27, 28 and 29 November.
He was stopped on one occasion as he left the store and a bottle of Martini was recovered, and on the third occasion he was stopped after he was seen trying to steal a bottle of port.
Ms Ellis-Jones said two of the bottles were recovered, but asked for compensation for a bottle of port that had been stolen.
He said that on 5 December, Collins, of Y Bryn, St John’s Hill, had been made subject to a community protection order banning him from having alcohol in a public place, being drunk in a public place or causing problems for businesses in Aberystwyth town centre.
But Ms Ellis-Jones said officers were called by a staff member at the Halifax bank shortly before 5pm on 9 December as he had taken down his trousers and was urinating in the doorway.
Magistrates heard that a community order that Collins was already subject to had a condition that banned him from visiting the Tesco Express store, meaning the three occasions he had stolen or tried to steal alcohol meant he had breached that order.
Defence solicitor Janem Jones questioned whether Collins, who she said had mental health issues, had understood the community protection notice. She said that all incidents were low-level, but that there were underlying issues with Collins.
Collins said that he had been “in a panic” when he urinated in the doorway of the bank.
Ms Jones said she expected magistrates to want a pre-sentence report before deciding how to sentence Collins.
The case was adjourned until 6 January for sentencing at Caernarfon Magistrates Court and Collins was granted conditional bail.
