AN INQUEST has been held into the death of a two-year-old girl who died when the car she was in rolled into the River Teifi at Cardigan.

Coroner Peter Brunton recorded a verdict of misadventure and described the death of Kiara Moore as “a catastrophic event”.

The inquest in Aberystwyth on Tuesday heard that the silver-coloured Mini she was in was parked on a slipway outside the family business, Adventure Beyond, on 21 March.

Kiara’s mother Kim Rowlands had placed her in the vehicle at about 3.30pm and went to get cash from inside the business.

When she returned two minutes later the car had disappeared and, thinking the car had been stolen, the police were called.

After it was realised that the car had rolled in to the river, PCSO Caryl Griffiths dived into the water to try to get Kiara out. Kiara was later pronounced dead after being flown to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

The inquest was told the car was later found to be in third gear without the handbrake applied.

Kiara’s father, Jet Moore, said there had not been any issues with the car and Kiara knew not to play with the controls.
