A Llanilar paedophile who was jailed earlier this year for sex assaults on babies and young children, has died while in custody.
Jared Perry, 32, walked into Aberystwyth police station last year and admitted to officers that he had sexually assaulted seven children, three of them when they were babies.
Perry, of Talar Deg, was jailed for 10 years in January by Judge Paul Thomas, who said that he was a “dangerous offender who posed an extremely high risk of sexually harming children in the future”.
Perry died in custody last week while serving his 10-year sentence in Bridgend, and an investigation has been launched by authorities.
Ian Coles, deputy director of HMP Parc, said: “On 3 November 2019, Mr Perry passed away in hospital.
“As with all deaths in custody, this will be investigated by the Prison and Probation Ombudsman.”
Swansea Crown Court heard in January that Perry had made members of his family aware that he had committed child sex offences. Perry promised “to change”, but went on to sexually assault more children.
Eventually Perry made full admissions to the police.
Perry’s barrister, Dean Pulling, said he had been brought up in a deeply religious environment and had been driven by his conscience to confess.
Perry admitted 10 offences of indecent assault and sexual assault on children aged under 13.
An inquest into Perry’s death was opened on 6 November.
The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has begun an investigation into his death and a report will be published at the end of the inquest.
