A THIRD director of a Gwynedd waste business has admitted environmental offences.

Joseph Benedict Gaffey, 52, of Madoc Street, Porthmadog, appeared at Mold Crown Court on Monday afternoon and admitted charges of failing to comply with the conditions of an environmental permit at the premises of Porthmadog Skip Hire on the Penamser Industrial Estate in Porthmadog between June 2014 and September 2015.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to comply with an enforcement notice issued on June 24 last year and a suspension notice served in November.

His guilty pleas mirror those of two other directors: Patricia Mary Gaffey, 63, of Y Fron near Caernarfon and Michael John Gaffey, 58, of Maes Gerddi, Porthmadog, on a previous occasion at Caernarfon Crown Court.

Other charges, which all three denied, were allowed to remain on the file by Judge Niclas Parry.

The company Porthmadog Skip Hire previously denied through barrister Jonathan Austin a charge of operating without an environmental permit.

The prosecution, Natural Resources Wales, said that it would make a decision not to proceed against the company once defence claims that the company had never traded and did not have any assets were confirmed.

All three were bailed pending a hearing in January at Caernarfon Crown Court when the issue of Proceeds of Crime and sentence will take place.

Judge Parry ordered pre-sentence reports and said that all sentencing options, including custody would remain open.

The judge said that he accepted the explanation of Joseph Gaffey who did not attend court on the last occasion because of ill-health, and no further action would be taken.
