A PENPARCAU teenager has been warned she can’t continue to “kick off” after magistrates heard she verbally abused and struggled with police officers.

Nina Morris Brandy-Adams, of 5 Parc Dinas, pleaded guilty to resisting two police officers with the court hearing that her mother had tried to calm down Brandy-Adams only to be verbally abused.

Helen Tench, prosecuting, said police officers had attended at 19-year-old Brandy-Adams’ home on 12 March and were invited in by her mother.

Brandy-Adams came downstairs and walked past the officers into the living room, but when they tried to talk to her about another incident, the court heard that Brandy-Adams became abusive and swore at the officers.

Officers said they were going to take her to the police station, but Brandy-Adams said she was going outside for fresh air and became more aggressive when officers said they would have to handcuff her.

After getting a handcuff on one of her wrists, Brandy-Adams put her other hand behind her back before lunging at the officers, causing one of them to fall over a coffee table.

She was struggling so much that officers at one point put leg restraints on her, but they were removed when she agreed to calm down.

Defence solicitor Iestyn Davies said Brandy-Adams was embarrassed at her reaction, but said she had become upset and angry as police had come to talk to her about an allegation against her that was false.

He said that, while Brandy-Adams should “have dealt with this better”, she was “unlucky” to appear before the court as police officers could have released her on street bail on the day and spoken to her about the allegation later.

However, he added: “Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I don’t want to be critical.”

Mr Davies said Brandy-Adams had apologised to one of the officers involved in the incident and was planning to apologise to the second officer.

But presiding magistrate Caroline Whitehead told Brandy-Adams that she had to learn to control her temper and said: “You cannot kick off like this”.

Brandy-Adams was fined £80 and will pay costs totalling £80.
