A CILIAU Aeron woman who crashed into a wall was almost four times the drink-drive limit at the time, but claimed medication had led to the high reading.

Jeanette Ann Hossain, of Parc Lluest, Ty Newydd, pleaded guilty to drink-driving on 26 May.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said police had found a soft drink bottle in her bag which she admitted contained vodka.

Ms Tench said police on patrol came across Hossain’s Audi which had hit a wall on the B4333 at Tanygroes.

Hossain, 44, failed a roadside breath test and a later test showed that she had 133 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Following her arrest, officers found the soft drink bottle which Hossain told them had vodka in it.

However, she insisted at the police station that she had only drunk one glass of wine and said that medication must have caused the high alcohol reading.

Magistrates heard that Hossain had a previous drink-drive conviction in 2013.

Alison Mathias, defence solicitor, said Hossain had been going through a difficult time, with her husband waiting to learn if he would be awarded a visa to work in the UK and the couple recently taking over an Indian restaurant in Aberporth.

Ms Mathias said on the day, the visa had been confirmed and Hossain had drunk to celebrate and now accepted that her medication was not to blame for the high reading.

She said Hossain had taken a bottle of vodka to the restaurant, but after the couple had rowed she took some of the vodka in the soft drink bottle and decided to drive home, but had not drunk any of the vodka.

Hossain told a probation officer that she now accepted she had probably drunk around five glasses of wine on the day before deciding to drive and not just one.

Magistrates imposed a driving ban of 30 months and made her subject to a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Hossain was also fined £41 and will pay costs of £170.
