A LAMPETER woman who stole items from a supermarket suffered memory loss because of medication and told police she “can’t understand what makes me act in this way”.
Christine Williams, of Emmaus Chapel, Pentrebach, admitted theft from Sainsbury’s in Lampeter on 13 September when she walked out of the store with items in her bag.
Helen Tench, prosecuting, said Williams, 56, was seen by staff at the store putting some items in a trolley, and some in a bag.
She then paid for the items in the trolley, but walked out without paying for the items in the bag. Ms Tench said the stolen items were valued at £28.20.
Williams told police she was short of money, stressed and on medication, but said: “I can’t understand what makes me act in this way.”
Williams had a caution for a similar offence.
Defence solicitor Janem Jones said Williams had been on medication that caused her to suffer occasional memory loss.
Williams was given a conditional discharge for 12 months. She will pay costs of £105.
