Following your excellent article regarding the 100 per cent council tax levy on second homes, I have written to Gwynedd Council regarding a rebate for the time that I have been prevented from using my home for the best part of a year.

I have previously written to the council with regard to this matter and I was told that the council tax is not based upon use but ownership.

I made a one-off, sentimental purchase of a bungalow in Fairbourne following the death of both my parents in 1989. I say sentimental as both my parents loved the area and spent a lot of time there.

As you will be aware,Fairbourne is now blighted by having a limited life before the sea reclaims it.

The council is concerned about the unavailability of housing stock for local people due to second-home ownership. At the time that I made my purchase, few young people wanted to buy in the village due to the employment situation. Now,even if they wished to purchase they would be unable to raise a mortgage due to the current situation with Fairbourne having a limited life due to rising sea levels.

So, bearing this in mind, perhaps Gwynedd Council might like to consider reducing the council tax for all Fairbourne home owners, second or not.

In the unfortunate event that Fairbourne should suddenly be inundated by the sea, where exactly would the residents be evacuated to and how?

At the time of writing, I still await a reply to my email from the council.
