Madam,

Seven weeks ago you kindly printed my letter in regard to the dangerous practice of uninsured cyclists, unfamiliar with the Highway Code, riding along pavements and up one-way streets usually without warning devices or lights.

I had hoped that our elected members (town or county) would have raised the matter in their respective meetings or highway and police authorities taken note to ensure the safety of pedestrians, especially the elderly or disabled.

I had hoped that health and safety would involve themselves, but they are preoccupied with pursuing little boys and girls playing conkers or climbing trees.

However, I am encouraged by the response of local people who have thanked me for pursuing the matter and beg them to take the matter up with the elected members, or better still, write to the Cambrian News with details of their ‘near misses’, as I would far prefer the matter to be community-led rather than a personal crusade.

Finally, along with most people I have never been quite sure what the job description of our police commissioner is but, if this matter comes within his remit, I am sure we would all be grateful for his guidance.

Yours etc,

Sydney Jones, Llwyn yr Eos, Southgate, Aberystwyth.
