CYCLISTS from Aberystwyth are holding a 113-mile charity ride to raise money for Wales Air Ambulance after the service helped treat riders who were injured in a crash during a race in August.
Members of the Ystwyth Cycling Club are riding from Aberystwyth to Welshpool on Saturday, 8 October in a bid to raise thousands of pounds.
Ten cyclists were injured following a crash on the B4340 at around 12.30pm on Sunday, 14 August, after a serious collision at the annual Angela Davies Memorial Road Race, organised by Ystwyth Cycling Club.
Two of the cyclists - one of whom suffered a head injury, and another who suffered a pelvic injury — had to be airlifted to Morriston Hospital by two separate air ambulances following the crash.
Richard Eakins, of Ystwyth Cycling Club said: “During the Angela Davies road race this August there was a bad crash which resulted in two air ambulances coming out to help the injured and take them to Swansea.
“This quick response potentially prevented any lasting damage and all riders were released from hospital by the end of that week.
The charity ride will begin outside Cambrian Tyres on 8 October at 9am.
