A FORMER Aberystwyth woman will take part in the Great London Swim to pay tribute to her Aberystwyth University professor father, who died in August last year.
Sarah Trotter, a former Ysgol Penweddig GCSE and Ysgol Penglais A-level pupil, will take part in the two-mile swim in July to raise money for Macmillan in memory of her father Professor David Trotter.
Prof Trotter died on 24 August after battling a rare cancer aged just 58.
Sarah, 25 and a PhD student at the London School of Economics and Political Science, where she also teaches family law, said seeing her father’s battle against cancer had made her want to raise money for Macmillan to ensure people fighting the disease get the support they need.
She said: “As a family we have been so grateful for all the love and support - from near and afar - that has been extended to our family over the past few months.
“Cancer is, basically, a profoundly horrendous nightmare and I have thought many times about how dreadful it must be to face it alone, or even to be alone as a family to deal with it.
“I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer in memory of Dad. So far the response has been overwhelming and I am so grateful to all those who have donated so far. It is such an important cause, and it is so close to so many people’s hearts.”
