A Gwynedd father who is raising money for the hospital which gave him and his daughter “incredible care” after he gifted her a kidney has postponed a sponsored walk due to bad weather.
With freezing temperatures and hail forecast, however, the challenge has been put off until August.
Jennie, 20, was diagnosed with renal failure shortly before her 18th birthday in February 2017.
She was on dialysis for two years but a kidney donor could not be found for her and she had to put her A level studies at Pwllheli college on hold for two years before Gareth stepped in as a match to donate a kidney.
“The weather was just too bad in the planned night,” Gareth said.
“The challenge is rescheduled for the night of 31 August and I will continue training hard and raising money until then.”
Gareth told the Cambrian News that Jennie “continues to be amazing” and even went to London to watch a pop concert last weekend, something “that would have been impossible a few months ago”.
“Without the amazing renal care teams at Liverpool and Bangor we wouldn’t be where we are today,” he said.
“I’m doing this challenge in recognition of all they did for us.”
Gareth has smashed his £150 fund-raising target, raising £535 at the time of going to press.
