AN Aberystwyth runner is aiming to raise over £1,500 for the Wales Air Ambulance to pay tribute to a Capel Bangor youngster who died in a car crash.
Rhodri ap Dyfrig will take on the Trail Marathon Wales in Coed y Brenin on 17 June after deciding he wanted to do something in memory of Ned Jones, who died in March last year following a car accident.
Rhodri, whose son was close friends with five-year-old Ned, said he had decided to take on the Trail Marathon Wales to pay tribute to Ned and raise vital funds for the Wales Air Ambulance.
He said: “I wanted to do something in memory of Ned Jones who died so tragically last year. He and my son were very close and his loss has left a big hole in his life and their classroom.
“It is important to us that we continue to keep Ned’s memory alive so that my son can remember that he had a good friend in Ned when he was young.
“Wales Air Ambulance was the first charity that came to mind as they had helped Ned, as they do for so many other people in need of emergency assistance in rural Wales.
“It is such an important service and it is unbelievable that they are run on donations alone.
“I’m raising funds online and am so thankful to all who have already donated pushing the sum raised to over £1,300 already. I’m aiming to reach past the £1,500 mark before the race in four weeks time.”
Anyone who would like to help Rhodri’s fundraising can do so at his Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/marathon-rhodri.
