THE heartbroken owner of a cat mauled to death in a back garden in Dolgellau fears the dog responsible for his pet’s death will kill again.
Sandy’s 82-year-old owner Tony Herbert has broken his silence about the “frightening” experience and said he is deeply concerned that the out-of-control dog may attack again, possibly even a child or vulnerable adult.
“It was a despicable, savage attack,” said Mr Herbert. “This dog must be stopped.”
Mr Herbert added: “The animal is a killer, I’ve seen the CCTV footage of the dog and honestly, it makes me quite fearful."
Mr Herbert described his sorely missed Sandy as a “very tough” cat which always enjoyed sitting and watching animal shows on the TV.
“She was predominantly an inside cat, but would but go out for a sniff around in the morning,” he said.
“She went out that Saturday morning and the next things I know, she’s dead, laid out on the grass just a few feet from our backdoor.
“Sandy had been bitten right through the midriff, right through the ribcage – she was absolutely savaged. On the CCTV footage you can see the grizzly attack and then the dog looks up like it’s being called away."
Police said the dog is similar to the ‘pitbull’ breed, large, tan in colour with a large prominent light coloured collar. Anyone with information to ring 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and quote RC 1714 5375.
