A darts marathon in Tywyn has raised over £3,000 in memory of a much-loved mum.
The money raised will go towards Pancreatic Cancer Action in memory of Glenys Allen (seen inset), who passed away earlier this year from the disease.
Former matron at the Bay Nursing home, Glenys was just 68 when she died of the disease and her family have decided to raise as much money as possible for a charity set up to tackle pancreatic cancer.
The darts marathon was held at the Tredegar Arms in Tywyn over the Easter weekend and on the night managed to raise £3,147.80.
Glenys’ husband, Bob, said: “Thanks go to Tina for having the idea in the first place, Sian and Dai for allowing us to use the Tredegar Arms, the shopkeepers and tradespeople of Tywyn for being so generous with raffle prizes. Most importantly thank you to all who kindly supported the venture.”
This money pushed Glenys’ fund over the £6,000 mark to date, but the family plan to go even further and raise £10,000.
The family have also set up a Just Giving page in memory of Glenys.
On the page, John Allen writes: “We’re raising money in memory of our beautiful mum, wife and nain, who sadly passed away after an agonising eight months battling metastatic Pancreatic Cancer.
“She was the most kind, caring and selfless person who would always make time for anyone. She was loved by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her and always had a wonderful smile no matter what the circumstance.
“Words cannot begin to describe how vicious and debilitating this cancer is and nothing could have prepared our family for the pain she was in throughout her battle, especially during her final weeks."
