A 22-YEAR-OLD Tregaron woman is backing a team of solicitors who will be pounding the streets of Cardiff on Sunday in memory of her dad who died earlier this year after suffering a brain injury on the family farm.

Andrew Jones, 52, was mucking out the cattle shed when he was struck by a large metal door blown by a gust of wind in 2014.

Having been flown by Wales Air Ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, Mr Jones underwent immediate surgery, and subsequent specialist neuro-rehabilitation, but sadly died last March.

Now his daughter, Cara Capener-Jones, who lives with her mum near Tregaron, will be backing a team from Cardiff-based Hugh James Solicitors - who represent her family – who are running the Cardiff Half Marathon in the hope of raising £1,000 for Wales Air Ambulance.

“I believe that it was the Wales Air Ambulance service that not only saved my dad’s life but allowed us to have an extra three years with him,” she said.

“They not only assisted on the day of the accident but they also helped transfer my dad to the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit in Bristol which was a crucial part of his rehabilitation.

“My family as a whole have always donated to Wales Air Ambulance as my auntie was previously a fundraiser for the charity, but we hadn’t ever thought of organising our own fundraising activity until my dad’s accident happened.

“It was only then we realised how much each journey costs and how crucial the service is. Me and five friends recently took part in the Swansea Half-Marathon in memory of my dad, in which we raised over £600 for the charity, and a further £1,500 was raised at his funeral.”
