A Harlech woman has raised more than a thousand pounds for cancer awareness and the hospital that cared for her after completing the Race for Life while undergoing radiotherapy for early breast cancer.
Dawn Harper Lawlor, who works at Aldi Porthmadog as assistant manager, was diagnosed with early breast cancer in January this year.
After a successful operation in March, Dawn heard about the Race for Life events and, despite her oncologist advising against the run, felt that she “needed to do this”.
Dawn got together with the majority of her female staff at the Aldi store to run the Race for Life in Caernarfon and between them they raised £795.
A separate collection raised more than £600.
Dawn’s husband, Chris, said he was “very proud”.
“In early January Dawn was called in for a mammogram, and four days later she was called back to Llandudno for more tests.
“After various tests, biopsies, and MRI scans, they discovered she had early breast cancer.
“Her operation in early March was a complete success, and she needed to recover from surgery before her next phase of radiotherapy.
“She got to hear about Race for Life and, despite her oncologist advising against the run, she felt that she needed to do this.
“Dawn feels very passionate about breast cancer awareness, as this could have been fatal if it had not have been spotted.”
Dawn said she felt “so grateful to Llandudno breast care for saving her life”, and “felt compelled to give them something in return”.
