Editor,

Like many others, I am deeply concerned about the wider problem of roadside littering by motorists, who seem to care more about the interior of their cars than the health of our environment.

One of the joys of Ceredigion in February is seeing the emerging colonies of pure white snowdrops naturalised, apparently randomly, on our old hedgebanks.

The uplifting sight of these graceful harbingers of spring is rapidly dashed within a few yards by the depressing gleam of discarded cans, bottles and junk-food packets.

I occasionally join the ‘Make a Green Team’ picking up litter along the A482 near Lampeter. Passing Sunday-morning motorists who see us at work, just like Cambrian News readers, cannot be the perpetrators of this mindless littering.

How on earth can we change the mentality of the vandals who have the means to buy trash but lack the sense to dispose of its packaging other than by jettisoning it along the roads we all share?

Penny David, Lampeter.
