BOW Street railway station and transport hub should be completed by 2020 after the Welsh Government confirmed it would provide additional funding.
The news comes over a month after the UK Government announced it would be contributing almost £4m towards the cost of the £6.76m station under its New Stations Fund.
After questions over who would make up the shortfall, Ceredigion AM Elin Jones confirmed the Welsh Government has agreed to contribute. The station is expected to open in March 2020.
Ms Jones said: “I am really pleased that the Welsh Government will fund the remaining budget for the train station in Bow Street, and very happy that there is now a timeline for the completion.
“I, like many others, will look forward to using Bow Street’s station from 2020.
“I am sure that it will be used widely by commuters into Aberystwyth, and will have an effective impact on the reduction of congestion in the north of Ceredigion.
“It will also be a convenient hub to access the Aberystwyth-Shrewsbury train service.”
The funding announcements come after years of campaigning and discussions between the Welsh Government, the Mid Wales Rail Implementation Group, Ceredigion County Council, and the rail industry.
