The delivery of an electricity transformer the size of a large motorhome has been delayed because of severe weather.
The transformer, which had been due to arrive at Black Rock Sands by barge this Wednesday, may not arrive for at least two weeks.
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “We have been advised that there has been a delay in the departure of the vessel that is transporting the transformer from Rotterdam due to recent severe weather conditions and rough seas in the straits of Dover.
“The estimated date of arrival at Morfa Bychan has been changed and the ship is now expected to arrive in Tremadog Bay from 16 September onwards.
“This date will again depend on the weather which will dictate the ships date of departure from her resting port.
“In order to safely transport the transformer to Trawsfynydd, road closure dates have been amended and roads will be scheduled to close for a specified period of time commencing on 16 September. The exact times of the road closures will depend entirely on the arrival of the ship at Morfa Bychan. Residents and visitors are requested to be aware that road closures are likely to be in force during the period 16 September onwards for a period of approximately seven days.”
Wendy Williams, project manager, said: “National Grid has been planning the transformer delivery for months, taking into account potential delays to the schedule due to adverse weather conditions. The change to the delivery date does not have an impact on electricity supply and we hope to follow the same plan and route beginning on 15 September, weather permitting.”
When the 128.5 tonne transporter does arrive, part of Black Rock Sands Beach will be cordoned off and a rolling road closure will be in place as it travels through Porthmadog and on to a National Grid substation at Trawsfynydd.
