Welsh weatherman Derek Brockway has visited Aberystwyth as part of a special series of Weatherman Walking, celebrating the country’s stunning and spectacular Welsh coastline.
The brand new eight-part series, Weatherman Walking: The Welsh Coast, started last month but the fifth episode in the series, airing on Friday on BBC One Wales at 7.30pm, will see the meteorologist and rambler explore a stretch of the coast between Ynyslas and Aberystwyth.
Setting off from the Ynyslas National Nature Reserve, he heads first for Cors Fochno where he discovers one of Britain’s most important raised peat bogs.
From there it’s on to Borth before braving the waves with a spot of paddle boarding. After returning to dry land, Derek continues down the coast to take in the spectacular scenery at Wallog and Sarn Cynfelyn.
Further down the coastal path at Clarach, he joins up with members of the Aberystwyth University Hiking Club who take him as far as Constitution Hill with its famous cliff railway.
He then rounds off the route amongst the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle, as well as the town’s university.
Speaking of the new series, Derek said: “The Welsh coastline is spectacular, stretching for nearly 900 miles and there’s a coastal path the entire length of it.
“Around each bay and each bend is a sight to behold.
“I’ve walked the length and breadth of this country but there are still corners of the Welsh coast I’ve never seen.”
