The past year of lockdown has been a trying time, especially for those who are housebound.

Being able to exercise outdoors is difficult for those with reduced mobility so it is more important than ever to create safe spaces and enjoyable destinations.

The residents of Harlech are blessed with beautiful surroundings that can now be more fully appreciated because access has been improved to the beach pathway and seating in this area.

Disability access group chairman for Merioneth, Delwyn Evans, went along to show a new mechanism that has been fitted to change the swing gate into one that opens wide to allow for wheelchair access.

A bench has also been refurbished with a special wheelchair bay to enable people to sit side by side, making conversation more natural than having to talk to a person sitting behind or in front.

As the seating area overlooks the Royal St David’s golf course many pleasurable hours now can now be spent watching play or simply relaxing in the fresh air, conversing with passers-by, Delwyn said.
