A NEW project has been set up in Llanilar to help youngsters with disabilities to grow their own vegetables.
Thanks to funding from Ceredigion Association of Voluntary Organisations, this week there was a launch event to celebrate a new polytunnel at the UNO project garden and training bungalow.
The young people attend the Uno project training garden in Llanilar every Monday and thanks to the new polytunnel, are now able to get involved in everything from the planting of seed to the harvesting of a much wider range of produce.
Jules Montgomery, the Uno project’s gardening coach said; “The new polytunnel has enabled us to plant seeds rather than having to buy plants in, and it means that we can grow things like tomatoes whatever the weather.
“We’re all very much looking forward to cucumbers, which there’s no way we could have grown outside. When the weather isn’t good, we’re now able to sit inside and talk about what to grow. It’s really opened up what we’re able to do at the garden and we’re all looking forward to developing it more in the future.”
