During the past year the residents of Dolgellau have supported one another, as in communities everywhere. It even offered an opportunity to get to know some whom we previously did not know.
As a once ‘incomer’ to Dolgellau I valued the welcome I was given and would dearly like to think that this welcome is extended to all. So, it was with disappointment that I read of the rejection of the plans to create sheltered accommodation for homeless people on the site of the old school on Ffordd yr Aran. When we visit cities and towns it is distressing to see homeless people on the streets. We do not know the circumstances which brought them there. In rural areas it is less visible, but nonetheless present.
I appreciate the anxiety and fear of the unknown, but it is acceptance and respect not rejection that will change the world. I know from my working days how greatly the world can change for those in trouble when others show belief in them. There will be the occasional glitch, but haven`t we all made mistakes?
I am sorry that the caring community of Dolgellau contribute to “not in my backyard”.
