The chairman of Porthmadog FC says he is disappointed that an area of the town tidied by volunteers was littered with rubbish again the next day.

Phil Jones, along with club representatives and supporters, tidied from Ysbyty Alltwen roundabout towards Bodawen roundabout and down Portmadog bypass last Saturday, but it didn’t stay tidy for long.

Phil said: “We had 10 people take part in the pick, which was good as it was organised at short notice.

“We collected over 20 bags of litter, but 24 hours later there was so much rubbish in the area again. It was unbelievable. People don’t seem to care.

“The next day I went past the area I personally cleared and could see rubbish there again. I get fed up when people say it’s the council’s responsibility. It is down to people’s own responsibility.”

He added: “We were there from 11am to 1pm but we really just scratched the surface. We live in such a beautiful part of the country, but lots of people don’t seem to care. It’s soul destroying.

“I was thankful to the people who turned up to help, but it shouldn’t be necessary. People will lose motivation to help if they see rubbish there build up again.”

Porthmadog FC and Porthmadog councillor Nia Jeffreys thanked all who took part in the litter pick.
