Madam,

I was dismayed to read that Wales’ first ever closed road rally is going to be held in Ceredigion.

Personally, I am hoping to be away the weekend that this event is to be held.

I can only imagine the awful noise and air pollution, not to mention increased carbon emissions, that will be created by some 120 souped-up rally cars being driven around our beautiful countryside, possibly during the night-time.

I understand that some of the routes go very near people’s houses. Looking at Rali Bae Ceredigion’s website, I was angry to discover that our MP, Ben Lake, has given his wholehearted support to this venture. Perhaps he was taken in by the event’s so-called environmental credentials - there will be a park-andride service to take spectators to designated areas. The event is also heavily supported by Aberystwyth University. I am not sure what they stand to gain from it - perhaps they are providing accommodation to visitors in their halls of residence?

I realise that Ceredigion and the Welsh Government/ VisitWales must see this as a great way to extend the tourist season in Ceredigion, but when are people going to realise there’s a climate crisis looming and we must act accordingly?

Where are the green jobs?

Yours etc, Dorothy E Wilson, Marine Terrace, Aberystwyth.
