A DESPERATE husband and wife have been forced apart after facing the “unrelenting nightmare” of a transatlantic visa battle.

Carlos Consuelo and Jayne Smith first met in the United States in 2002.

After years of living and working together in California, the duo eventually married in 2014 and decided to relocate to Jayne’s native Wales so she could be closer to her family.

The happy couple settled in Aberdyfi, bought a house together, and Jayne opened a clothing store. Carlos trained dogs and last year the pair opened up Dyfi Dogs - a ‘friendly, fun dog gift shop’.

Whilst settling in the area, Carlos was in the process of applying for a Family Settlement Visa to allow him to live here legally long-term.

After his visitor and temporary visa ran out, the troubles began for the couple, and Carlos has had to return to the US.

“We have never been separated for such a long period of time.

“We are a partnership. We work together everyday, side by side, we have done so for many years.

“To not have him by my side is extremely hard for me, and for him too.
