DOCTORS are said to be “very pleased” with the progress of a popular Aberystwyth dad after he was left in a coma in intensive care following a fall down stairs on New Year’s Eve.
Daemon Smith, known as ‘Big D’ to friends, was due to undergo further surgery as the Cambrian News went to press on Tuesday, but his dad Ron said his son had surprised everyone with the speed of his recovery.
Daemon, 40, is a staff member at Cambrian Printers, Aberystwyth, and has an eight-year-old daughter Felicity.
It was reported in the Cambrian News in January that Daemon was in intensive care at North Staffordshire University Hospital, Stoke-on-Trent, after the fall left him requiring emergency surgery due to a fractured skull.
“He is having an operation on Tuesday to put a plate on his skull, but he has improved a lot,” said Ron.
“What I don’t want to do is to give people a false impression because of the seriousness of his injuries, but the doctors are very pleased with him.
“He’s at like 80 per cent — he has lapses and gets a bit muddled. But he’s improved a lot more than I ever expected. I am over the moon.
“His mates came up to see him yesterday and he was up and about having a coffee with them. He had a good time with the boys.”
